Keep Your Pet Cool This Summer

Summer

Hot summer days can be dangerous for pets, especially if they are not properly cared for. Here are 7 tips to help you keep your pet cool and comfortable.

Provide

Make sure your pet has plenty of shade to cool off in. This could be a shady spot in your yard, a doghouse, or even an old blanket draped over a chair.

Water

Pets need to stay hydrated, especially in hot weather. Make sure your pet has access to fresh, cool water at all times.

Surfaces

Keep your pet off of hot surfaces, such as concrete, asphalt, and sand. These surfaces can quickly heat up and cause burns to your pet's paws.

Breaks

If you are taking your pet for a walk or hike on a hot day, take frequent breaks in the shade. Allow your pet to drink plenty of water and rest before continuing on your walk.

Towel

There are a number of cooling mats and towels available that can help keep your pet cool. These products can be placed in your pet's bed or crate.

Exercise

It is best to avoid exercising your pet during the heat of the day. If you must exercise your pet, do so early in the morning or late in the evening when it is cooler outside.
